As I mentioned on Monday, QWERTY keyboards are much better for text input on cell phones but there is another controvercy over what is better between hardware and touch screen keyboards because they each have their pros and cons but everyone has their own preferences, although I find one much more practical.
Hardware-based keyboards are usually made up of small, plastic keys that are located on the bottom of the device. The advantage this has over touch screen keyboards is that they have texture so users can train them selves to type without looking down on the keyboard. However as I mentioned on Monday, these keyboards add space to your device and make the device larger in size. Also if a plastic key breaks then, you are stuck either buying a new pgone or trying to get your phone repaired.
On the other side, touch screen keyboards only appear when it is needed on the device screen which is usually larger on this type of phone. Although you cannot touch type, you can still teach yourself how to type without looking you just need to put a little work into it. Although screens are larger the device itself is still thinner than a hardware keyboard device. Typing is just as easy as on a hardware keyboard and has just a slight learning curve.
In conclusion, not only are touch screen keyboard more efficent, but you don’t loose any typing capibilities. I would know since I now write many blog posts, including this one, on my iPod Touch using the WordPress Application. Do not let anyone tell you touch keyboards are inferior becase that is not true and I think more devices will use touch keyboards in the future because they allow devices to be much smaller.
