When it was announced that after a long time the iPhone 3G and the 2nd Generation iPod Toches have been jailbroken, it was not at all as much of an excitement that occured when the the original was jailbroken. I believe that one of the reasons is that that the original iPhone was hacked in a matter of days while this hack did not come  out until sevral months after the iPhone 3G was launched. But, I think the biggest factor is that since the release of the first iPhone the App Store has subsequently launched allowing you to legitimatly install applications on your deivce and extend the usability of the device vastly.

In my opinion, the App Store has single-handedly defeated jailbreaking  your iPhone because why should you do all the work and assume legal liability for your device, involved in jailbreaking when you can just download and buy applications from the Apps Store. The orginail jailbreak was excecuted many times because they wanted to access many extra features that Apple did not provide them. Many people believe that since they purchased the device, they have the right to install what ever they want but, I belive that with a device as revolutionary as the iPhone it comes with the territory and Apple wants to protect their interests on the iPhone. This also saves people from installing inapropriate or harmful applications that may damage their device.

I think it is very wise of Apple to launch the App Sotre because they stopped people from jailbreaking their device and now makes them more revenue over the Apps Store.
